The First IAESTE Co-operating Institution in Indonesia
Our journey to becoming an IAESTE Co-operating Institution in Indonesia began in April 2016, when we met Prof. Dr. Tongdee Cheevapruk from IAESTE Thailand during a visit to Western Digital Company in Thailand. This encounter introduced us to the IAESTE global internship program and inspired us to bring this international network to Indonesia.
In October 2016, we attended the Asian IAESTE Forum (AIF) in Bangkok, Thailand. Through this experience, we gained deeper insights into international student exchange programs, global internships, and IAESTE’s worldwide impact. Today, we are proud to be an IAESTE Co-operating Institution and currently the only active IAESTE institution in Indonesia.
Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta (UAJY) is a leading private university in Indonesia located in Yogyakarta, Java, approximately 450 km from Jakarta. With around 12,000 students, UAJY is recognized for its academic excellence and strong commitment to international collaboration and student mobility programs.
Yogyakarta is widely known as a cultural city in Indonesia and a major education hub in Southeast Asia, home to many universities and heritage sites. As one of the most popular destinations in Indonesia, it offers a unique environment for study abroad experiences, cultural exchange, and international learning. Each year, students from across Indonesia come to Yogyakarta to pursue higher education.
We are currently working to expand the IAESTE network in Indonesia by building partnerships with companies and institutions. Through these collaborations, we aim to provide more international internship opportunities for students worldwide, enabling them to gain valuable global work experience.
Looking ahead, we aim to increase the number of internship opportunities offered by Indonesian companies and to send more Indonesian students abroad through the IAESTE internship program.
