Summer Course: Solar-Powered Pasteurized Milk Bike \u2013 Engineering Freshness on the Move<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Imagine a vehicle that doesn\u2019t just transport fresh milk\u2014it pasteurizes, chills, and sells it on the spot, all powered by the sun. Welcome to the Solar-Powered Mobile Pasteurization Unit Summer Course, an ambitious program where sustainable engineering, food safety innovation, and real-world entrepreneurship merge into one fully functional, road-ready mobile lab. Over eight intensive weeks, you will collaborate in an international team to design, fabricate, and activate a custom-built vehicle equipped with a solar-powered pasteurization and cooling system, delivering safe, fresh dairy directly to communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This summer, step beyond the classroom and into a world where engineering meets real-world impact. From May 1 to June 27, 2025, Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta invites passionate students from around the globe to participate in an immersive Summer Sustainability Program focused on green technology, smart mobility, and food security. Hosted at the state-of-the-art Automation Laboratory of the Industrial Engineering Department, this intensive eight-week program is centered around a groundbreaking hands-on project: the design, fabrication, and launch of a fully operational solar-powered mobile pasteurization unit\u2014a sustainable food truck engineered to deliver safe, fresh, and locally processed milk directly to communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the course of the program, you will embark on a comprehensive journey through the entire product development lifecycle. The experience begins with a series of expert-led workshops introducing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), renewable energy systems, and the role of the Internet of Things (IoT) in modern sustainable manufacturing. This theoretical foundation quickly transitions into applied learning as you collaborate in diverse, international teams. Using industry-standard CAD software, you will draft detailed designs for the vehicle\u2019s chassis, integrate photovoltaic energy systems, and engineer the thermal control and refrigeration units necessary for safe pasteurization and cold-chain management. In the laboratory, you will gain hands-on skills in welding, electrical assembly, solar panel installation, and sensor programming\u2014transforming digital designs into a tangible, road-ready prototype.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Beyond the workshop, the program is designed to provide holistic exposure to sustainability in action. You will visit local green-tech companies and manufacturing sites to observe sustainable practices firsthand, participate in the IAESTE International Festival to celebrate global cultural exchange, and enjoy organized cultural trips to experience the rich heritage of Yogyakarta. The program culminates in a final presentation and demonstration week, where your team will showcase the completed vehicle, conduct live pasteurization tests, and even engage in a pilot community outreach initiative. This unique blend of technical rigor, cross-cultural collaboration, and entrepreneurial context ensures that every participant leaves not only with a certificate but with proven skills in sustainable engineering, project management, and global teamwork.<\/p>\n<\/div>
